Millennium Eruption of Baitoushan Volcano,Disaster and Impact on Japan

- 中朝国境の活火山-　白頭山のミレニアム噴火、災害と日本への影響

Abstract
　Located on the border of China and North Korea, Baitou Mountain (Paektu Mountain, Changbai Mountain) is famous as one of the volcanoes representing East Asia Continent. The mountain is an active volcano and has recently experienced seismic and uplift activity from 2002 to 2005. The mountain also erupted about 1,000 years ago in the world's largest eruption in the past 2,000 years (the Millennium Eruption), and there are towns with many people living near the volcano, so there were concerns about the transition of this activity as well. Unfortunately, not much is known about this mountain、neither its geological content nor its exact historical relationship with people. In this presentation, I will give an overview of the geology and geography of the mountain. The chronological relationship between small eruptions after the Millennium Eruption and trench earthquakes in Japan is also discussed. As a result, a close relationship is established between the ages of the eruptions and the earthquake.
