本稿ではウイロウ・パターンと通称されている陶磁器の図様の起源と物語の成立について考察している。
ウイロウ・パターンの成立と変様の歴史を跡づけることは，18－19世紀の西洋・東洋の輸出陶磁器の流れを概観することにもなる。本稿は，18世紀後半期に中国から輸出された南京ウェアという染付磁器に焦点を当て，ひとつの図様の成立と変様の過程を明らかにする試み。
