| Abstract |
To evaluate individual characteristics of each site is an important issue about the studies of prehistoric Okinawa. The excavation of the Sesokojima-Antinoue shellmound site offered ideal date enough to deal with this issue in the aspect of stone materials. In this paper I try a couple of new research methods to attain useful date from these raw stone materials, and I reveal that the Anchinoue shellmound site played a major role in the exchange of raw stone materials at that time. In addition, I try to reconstruct a social
situation in the prehistoric Okinawa main island and the neighboring islands, in the perspective of the transformation of landscape around the Anchinoue shellmound site. |

| Abstract |
In the paper I study stone tool industries in the phase of the Tsumegatamon-style pottery. It has been considered that these assemblage has a distinctive characteristic that is different from the counterparts in other periods. Especially, edge-polished stone adze in the assemblages shows characteristic designs and distinctive manufacturing technique. Then I tentatively define it as the "Noguni-type stone adze".
In this phase, these was a variety of the assemblages in the light of presence and absence of the Noguni-type stone adze and chart materials. This implies that the people used a variety of localities for procuring raw stone materials. The industries in the phase of the Tsumegatamon style pottery were characterized by the distinctive ways of procuring and reduction of stone materials. Because of the peculiarities in the industries during this period, I tentaivety define it as the "Pre-Ryukyu Jomon style industry", and point out the possibility that this tradition was not succeeded by the following "Ryukyu Jomon style industries". |

| Abstract |
Two ceramic bird feeders introduced from china were recovered from the Shuri-jo Castle site. In this paper I focus on these materials, and also study Okinawan earthenware bird feeders recovered from other sites in Naha city as a comparison. In addition, I also refer to some records of pet rearing in Okinawa. Finally, I explore the usage of these artifacts, referring to modern examples of Chinese bird feeders and a case of the usage observed in Vietnam. |
